Learning how to find the best camping spot for RVs can mean the difference between an enjoyable time camping and a camping trip flop. Trust me. I know.

In fact, we did have a great camping spot in one RV park, and an annual renter bought it, and we had to move our RV halfway through our trip. Yes. That’s insane, but insane stuff happens. I probably could have fought it, but I didn’t feel like making trouble.

Quickest Way to Find a Great Camping Spot

The best way to find a great camping spot is to write down all of your criteria and use an app like Campendium to find spots that hit those criteria. There are other apps that do similar things, but Campendium is one of the most popular ones.

Choose Your Campsite Type

Most of the time, people have a specific type of RV camping spot they frequent. These campsite types are:

  • Campgrounds
  • RV Parks
  • Dispersed
  • RV Resorts

Campgrounds and RV parks are very similar, but campgrounds are much more relaxed with fewer amenities. RV parks almost always have full hookups available—at least in some parts of the park. Dispersed camping is usually free camping without a campground host on public land. And RV resorts are the fanciest types of RV camping, but they can get a little pricey.

If you’re like me, then you’re an RV park type and want to have as many amenities as you can. However, I do have to say that I do enjoy a nice campground that doesn’t put me window to window with my neighbor’s slide.

Once you know what type of campsite you want, you can start the rest of the search process.

Other Things to Consider When Picking Your RV Campsite

There are a few other things to consider before you lock in your perfect campsite.

  1. How far is the campsite from the attractions you want to visit?
  2. How long are you able to stay at the campsite you’re considering?
  3. Are there RV spots available?
  4. Is this campsite within your budget?

Asking yourself these questions before you book your campsite can help you avoid booking the wrong campsite for what you want to do when you’re on your vacation.

One bonus thing I like to do when I decide where I want to park is to figure out where people that I want to hang out with are going to camp and if we can meet up. Camping is far more fun when you hang out with your friends.

RV Campsite Frequently Asked Questions

I like how you said that campgrounds are more relaxed. My husband was telling me last night about how he wants to take our family on more RV camping trips next month. I’ll pass this information along to him as he searches for camping sites to go to with our RV
