You’re ready to have the most epic time and are asking, “How much does it cost to rent an RV for a cross country trip?”

Enjoying a great trip is one thing, but paying for it is another. However, seeing the beautiful countryside makes it worth every penny but I understand that you want to know how many pennies it will cost.

I am going to give you an example and break it down for house much it will cost to rent an RV and take a cross country RV trip.

For this example, we start out in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Keep in mind that these rates may change, but at the time of writing this article in June of 2022, this is how much it would cost, and I’ll update it if the information gets too stale to be helpful.

The RV we chose to rent is a Puma Travel Trailer, so you’ll need a tow vehicle to take the RV on the cross country trip. If you want to take a driving RV, you need to add up around double to the RV rental cost.

As you can see, it is a good-sized RV and would be a lot of fun because of the outside kitchen.

I gave a decent time range for the RV trip because it takes a while to get from one side of the country to the other if you want to have fun on the way.

I chose the best insurance, so you can be safe when you’re out there on the road. With this setup, you’d pay $3,013.69 plus taxes and other minor fees.

Now, another important thing about this listing is that they don’t charge you per mile. A lot of pull-behind RVs don’t charge you for mileage, but if you rent a driving RV, you get a certain number of miles per day that you rent it, and then you have to start paying per mile. So, if you need to go 500 miles over then you usually pay around $0.25 per mile for each extra mile which would mean an extra $125.00 for those extra miles.

Before you hit the road, keep in mind that you need to factor in the cost of your cross country RV trip.

If you plan on seeing natural sights and not spending a lot of money on entertainment, it might not cost that much. Depending on the fuel prices, you might have to put out quite a bit of money. Food can be expensive if you eat out a lot, but you have an RV, so it’s a lot easier to cook “at home” instead of going out to eat every meal.

Whatever number you figure in for these costs, add that to the number we got above, and you’re looking at a pretty close estimate of how much it would cost you to rent an RV and travel across the United States.
