There are few things more intimidating than trying to back a massive RV or camper into a tight camping spot. This is especially true if you’re surrounded by curious onlookers and a bunch of extremely expensive RVs and travel trailers. If the fear of messing up or taking forever to back into your spot isn’t enough, you’re also faced with the possibility of colliding with a nearby camper. Finding the best wireless backup camera for RVs can help.

The best and easiest way to drive your RV in reverse is using a backup camera. A backup camera automatically turns on when you put your RV in reverse and provides you with a clear view of everything behind you. It can make it easier to back into a tight spot and help you spot nearby objects, vehicles, or people.

If you think a wireless backup camera is right for you, you’ve come to the right place. This article will examine how to choose the right camera for your situation and a few of the best wireless backup cameras on the market.

Reasons to Get a Wireless Backup Camera for Your RV

There are several good reasons you should invest in a wireless backup camera for your RV.

  • Safety

The main reason to install a backup camera on your RV is so that you and the people around you can stay safe. A backup camera will help you spot people that run behind your RV, not realizing that you’re backing up. It will also help you know where you’re at if you’re backing into a camping spot near a river or drop-off.

  • Convenience

Not only will a wireless backup camera make your RVing experience safer. It will also make it easier and more convenient. Few things are more frustrating than taking half a day to back into a camping spot. It’s also very embarrassing when you have a bunch of experienced campers watching and judging you. If you want to save face and time, you should install a backup camera on your RV.

  • Affordability

Additionally, wireless backup cameras aren’t as expensive as you’re probably thinking. It’s cheaper to install one of these cameras than to back into someone or something and get saddled with a medical or repair bill. You should think of your camera as an investment!

"Awesome product, very easy to install and the camera immediately showed on my monitor as soon as I powered them both up. Seems very sturdy and well made. I mounted the camera on the rear of my 22' center console boat trailer and on the dash of my truck. The camera and monitor are roughly 50' apart and the picture is good quality. I would definitely recommend this product." - William R.

Furrion Vision S

Furrion Vision S 7 Inch Wireless RV Backup System with 1 Rear Sharkfin Camera, Infrared Night Vision and Wide Viewing Angle

"This camera does not work in a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali! It worked in our GMC Canyon and is installed in our Airstream. We traded our TV for a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Crewcab Denali Now (less than a month later, Amazon says the "return window is closed") and it will not work AT ALL. There is a KNOWN issue with the cameras and a 2019 GMC. (low voltage to the 7 way due to the "special technology").

UPDATE: I am totalling re-writing this review as my husband and I have never received such customer service! Furrion's "head of customer relations" called my husband and their engineers have a fix for this problem. It is a simple plug in that they have tested and it works. It plugs in the 7 way and boosts the voltage to the camera (ours is wired to our running lights). To top it off they are overnighting it and sending it free. We are overwhelmed with the service. It is not their issue (it is GMC's) and yet they have worked out a fix. Rarely, if ever, have we had THIS sort of exemplary service. Will update again when we receive and test the adapter." - Vivian

Another excellent option for a great wireless backup RV camera is the Furrion Vision S. While there’s a lot to love about this camera, let’s start with its only two downsides. First, it’s way more expensive than any other cameras you’ll see on this list. Secondly, if you want to use this camera with any system outside of the Furrion mounting system, you’ll need an adapter.

Now that we got the bad things out of the way, let’s look at why the Furrion Vision S is arguably the best wireless backup camera that money can buy. First, it’s straightforward to install, even if you use the adapter. It also has everything you need to get the job done, including the monitor, camera, mounting bracket, and power wires.

You can also mount this camera on the side, front, or rear of your RV, and you can add additional cameras to the system. It’s also water-resistant and mostly nondescript, aside from a small antenna on the monitor. Speaking of the monitor, it provides a clear and precise picture of everything going on behind you. While the maximum range of the camera is 500 feet, the image is much sharper at shorter distances.

  • Premium picture quality
  • Easy to mount and install
  • You can add multiple cameras to the same system for a line of sight in every direction.
  • It can also serve as a security camera.
  • Has a built-in microphone that you can use to have a two-way conversation with someone behind the RV

  • If you don’t have a Furrion mounting system in your RV, you’ll have to purchase an adapter.
  • Fairly pricy

Podofo Wireless Rearview Camera

"So, I bought this, price was right. isn't that the way we sometime buy things? Anyways, I installed onto a 30' travel trailer and could not get a signal when up and running. I e-mailed them, and have received no reply back. Went ahead and bought from another seller a 10' magnetic antenna and it made an improvement. I feel that I will really need to put an additional antenna on the camera as well to bring the connection in closer. Also not that while it is wireless, it does come with the yellow composite video jacks as well, so I would say you could connect it both ways which may be helpful. But I bought for the wireless and really dont have a great working system.

The seller reached out to me, and has shipped an extended cable antenna. This should hopefully get the two antennas closer to a 25' distance which they communicated to me via e-mail. Thank you for helping me out on this matter and I've increased the overall rating." - Jonathan T.

RV Backup Camera Wireless HD 1080P Bluetooth 2 Travel Trailer Rear View Cam System 7 Inch DVR Monitor Truck Camper Infrared Night Vision Reverse Cameras Adapter for Furrion Pre-Wired RVs AMTIFO A9

"Good camera, screen comes with a good amount of bits and bobs for different install options. The screen seems to have a lot of features. Support helped me fix a bug I was having with turning off the auto camera switching, and getting it to stay off.

In case it helps others.... I had two cameras set up and wanted auto switch off, always. However when I manually changed to the other camera auto would come on and it is not possible to change the setting again while driving etc. The fix was to have split screen option turned on, didn't have to view the split screen just have it turned on as an option, now when I manually change camera the auto does not come on, there is now a split screen to cycle through but no issue and may actually be good to have on." - Mr. E

Video and Camera Quality

The quality of the video and camera is the first thing you should look at when choosing your wireless backup camera. Video quality is measured in pixels; the higher the pixels, the better the quality. Clear video quality will make it easier to see what’s happening behind you and navigate into a tight spot and see if there’s anything in your way.

Additional features to look for are night vision, viewing angle, a high viewing degree, and constant monitoring.

As with all things in life, your budget will play a significant role in the camera that you choose.

Installation Difficulty

The nice thing about choosing a wireless backup camera is that they’re usually very easy to install. You simply mount the camera, antenna, and monitor according to the instructions of your specific camera, sync them together, and you’re good to go! You usually won’t need a professional electrician or mechanic to install a wireless backup camera system.

If you do a lot of RVing, investing in a wireless backup camera is one of the best things you can do. They make driving in reverse and backing into camping spots much safer and easier than they would otherwise be. They’re also easier to install and cheaper than wired camera systems, which makes them even more appealing.

By choosing one of the cameras on this list and adhering to our buying guide, you’re sure to purchase the perfect wireless backup camera.
