This great location with free hot showers and nightly entertainment is a great option for Alaska travelers.

2) Springer RV & Campground
Cozy and comfortable, you’ll enjoy your time at Springer RV and Campground. If you want to wake up with a gorgeous view of Pioneer Peak then this is the spot for you. While there aren’t a lot of spots, they are enjoyable if you can snag one.
Keep in mind that this gem is about 50 minutes from Anchorage in Palmer, Alaska. So if you want to go into the city, prepare for a bit of a drive.

Amenities: There aren’t a lot of bells and whistles but you’ve got the main important things like restrooms, showers, laundry and the community fire pit and BBQ.
Close to: If you don’t want to venture over to Anchorage and see the city, there are plenty of things to do close to the campground in Palmer, Alaska. You can head over to the Matanuska Glacier, take a peek at the Hatcher Pass & Independence Mine, book a helicopter tour or maybe just go on a hike.

3) Tenderfoot Creek Campground- Chugach National Park
If you’re looking for an awesome summer spot then this is your place. If you’re trying to come in the winter, you should avoid it since it’s probably closed anyway due to icy conditions.
Look for the bears because they’re around. Keep your food stored properly or you might find your favorite furry creature trying to hang out a little bit too close for comfort.

Amenities: There are pull through sites and pets are allowed but if you want WiFi, this is not the spot. Verizon is about the only way you’ll get any service. This is a perfect space if you want to hop in the river or stream for fishing. There is water to hook up to, toilets, fire pits, dumpsters, and a boat ramp.
Close to: About the only thing you’ll find here is nature. Again, great for fishing but you do need to have a permit.

This is a pretty large campground with 83 sites. You won’t find any hookups here but you’ll be glad to see the paved roads. Keep in mind that there has been some construction going on so depending on the progress, it may not be open and ready for guests.

Amenities: Ability to take your bicycle on the scenic Seward Highway to some of the best fishing rivers available for fishing enthusiasts. If you want to ski or snowshoe, this is a great spot for you during the winter.
Close to: Trails and rivers. Don’t miss the world-famous red and silver salmon fishery.

5) Eagle River Campground – Chugach State Park
If you’re excited to see wildlife like bears, wolves, salmon, eagles, and moose then heading to Eagle River Campground is a great idea. The river is beautiful but all of the amazing creatures are what will really turn your head.

6) Eklutna Lake Campground
For those of you who love lake life, Eklutna Lake Campground is the perfect spot to bring the boat. ATVs are also a lot of fun if you want to head out and sightsee on ATVs.
Cost: $$ of $$$$
Amenities: ADA facility, toilets, water, picnic shelters, lovely trails for hiking and horseback riding, public use cabin available, spots to ride ATVs and boating. Make sure to check when you’re allowed to take the ATVs on certain trails.
Close to: Lake Eklutna for boating, fishing, and other lake fun.

7) Bird Creek Campground
These gorgeous wooded sites with fire rings and picnic tables are sure to put your in pure relaxation mode. Make sure to bring your own firewood though because there isn’t any available on site. There are a couple of public use cabins on site if you want to check those out.

Amenities: ADA facility, almost 500,000 acres of nature playground for visitors, toilets, water, picnic area, and there are plenty of places to enjoy fishing, hiking, and biking.
Close to: Bird Creek is south of Anchorage but it isn’t too far. It does allow you to get out of the city and into the beautiful Alaska nature, however.
